Baleal is a small tied-island peninsula connected to the mainland by a sandbar with beaches on both sides — Baleal North and Baleal South — offering complementary surf conditions depending on the wind. The combination of consistent swell and forgiving sandy seabed has made Baleal Portugal's surf-school capital, with dozens operating simultaneously in peak season.
The small village retains a human scale, with informal seafood and bar spots along the sand and an atmosphere dominated by surf culture. Road access from Ferrel village. Free parking but heavily contested in July-August.
