Praia de Espinho is the central beach of the resort town of the same name, 25 km south of Porto. The town has been a beach destination since the late 19th century, when the arrival of the railway made it the favoured retreat of Porto's bourgeoisie. The seafront still hosts a continuous run of restaurants and a casino.
"Arte xávega" — traditional fishing with nets pulled to shore by animal or tractor traction — still operates in specific sectors, with the net-haul still drawing locals and visitors. Direct urban train from Porto (Linha do Norte) and A29 motorway; station within walking distance of the sand.
