Praia do Tamariz (commonly known as Estoril beach) is the main beach of Estoril town, south-facing, with fine sand and calm water sheltered by the natural curve of the bay. Its hallmarks are the pedestrian seafront that connects to Cascais and the palm gardens behind the beach.
Historically the favoured beach of Lisbon's coast since the late 19th century, it retains a strong resort tradition. Cafés and hotels cluster above the seafront. Direct train access: 25 minutes on the Cascais line from Cais do Sodré, with the station a few metres from the sand.
