Guincho is one of Portugal's most exposed beaches, west-facing and directly under the strong northerly summer wind (nortada) that blows from May through September — a combination that made it the country's top windsurfing and kitesurfing destination, with world-tour events held here.
It sits inside the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, framed by dunes and the Sintra mountain range. Swimming requires care: heavy surf and currents, sandy seabed with no shelter. About 7 km northwest of central Cascais; no direct train, reached by car or the Scotturb 405 bus.
