Praia da Luz is the central beach of the resort village of the same name, west of Lagos. Wide sand, light colour, usually calm sea, with the landscape to the west dominated by the Rocha Negra basalt headland — a rare volcanic outcrop in this otherwise limestone stretch of the Algarve.
The village developed mainly as a beach destination from the 1960s onwards and has a continuous line of restaurants along the seafront. Blue Flag-certified. Parking on the main road and a square next to the church. About 6 km west of central Lagos.
