Praia Grande is the largest beach in the Sintra municipality, continuous sand below the cliffs of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. The west-facing exposure to the Atlantic produces consistent waves, supporting a strong surf and bodyboard culture — international events have been held here for decades.
Unusual feature: a tide-fed saltwater ocean pool at the southern end, useful when the open sea is too rough. Fossilized dinosaur footprints on the northern cliff are classified as a National Monument. Road access from Colares; parking at the top near restaurants.
