Praia da Ribeira de Ilhas is the best-known beach in the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve, a designation granted in 2011 to ten beaches of exceptional surfing quality — Ericeira is Europe's only such reserve.
It regularly hosts WSL Qualifying Series events. Conditions deliver consistent left and right breaks over a mixed rock-and-sand seabed, best for experienced surfers. Limited sand outside low tide. Free seaside parking. About 4 km north of Ericeira town; heavily used by surfers, less so by casual swimmers.
